Gettysburg
Timing once again...Here I am in the cradle of this country and its the most important election of my lifetime and possibly for this country to be wrested from the control of the highjacked Republican Party. Visiting Gettysburg yesterday brought back fond personal memories from way back and current reminders of how 147 years ago the bloodiest battles for this country were fought right here on this soil.
Brother against brother. Mason Dixon line only miles away. If this site had been lost to the south, they could have dented territory into Union States. As it was, this was the only battle fought this far into Pennsylvania. The tactics are interesting and the politics behind it even more so. Was Lincoln an abolishionist by morality or by practicality. After reading "A Team of Rivals" I would say practicality followed by morality. The true beginning of the military/industrial complex that Eisenhower and others warned about almost 100 years later but by then well entrenched into what it has become now.
Later today involves working in Lancaster County by reminding people to get out and vote. This is the heart of mccain/palin county. Plus it was Halloween yesterday and sarah paid York a visit. Truly a heebeegeebee Halloween. But this is politics today. Would Licoln recognize his Republican Party, the progressive party of his time, the unifiying party of his time?? I don't and its only been 47 years for me.
The Phillies are a definite draw right now. Much to say about them around here and its not politics!!
I lose awareness for how large Pennsylvania is and how diverse the culture, landscape and peoples. In 1996 I had the honor of being in California when Bill Clinton was reelected. I was involved back then with rallies etc. Found out he was reelected in the Vegas airport! Vegas, should be election headquarters, it just somehow seems fitting. But I digress.
I hope to make the Baltimore Aquarium as well. I'm surprised at how close this area is to DC, Balt, Philly etc. Well, lets see where the day takes me, unlike this blog that is circuituous at best!!!
